GAZA CITY (Ma'an) -- A 14-month-old Palestinian toddler was killed along with her pregnant mother, who succumbed to her critical wounds shortly after Israeli warplanes targeted their home south of Gaza City, on Saturday.

According to the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza, 14-month-old Saba Abu Arar, and her pregnant mother, Falastin Abu Arar, 37, were killed due to the Israeli airstrikes.

The ministry confirmed that Saba’s sister, whose identity remained unknown, was moderately wounded in the airstrikes.

Tensions have increased across the Gaza Strip after Israeli forces shot and killed four Palestinians in the 57th “The Great March of Return” Friday protests, during which thousands of Palestinians take to the borders to peacefully protest the 12-year Israeli siege.

The four killed Palestinians were identified as Abdullah Mahmoud Abu Malouh, 33, Alaa Ali al-Boubli, 29, Ramzi Hassan Abdo, 31, and Raed Khalil Abu Teir, 19, who was on crutches during the protests.

Israeli forces also shot and injured at least 116 Palestinians, including 39 children and four women, during the Friday protests.

Following the killing of the four Palestinians, the Hamas movement fired about 250 home-made rockets towards southern Israel, the Israeli army confirmed in a statement.
