Israel demolishes family home of Palestinian attack suspect in Tulkarem

Dec. 17, 2018 10:36 A.M. (Updated: Dec. 19, 2018 11:36 A.M.)
TULKAREM (Ma'an) -- Israeli bulldozers demolished the family home of Ashraf Naalwa, a Palestinian suspected of carrying out a shooting attack killing two Israelis in October and who was killed by Israeli forces during the past week, in the northern occupied West Bank district of Tulkarem, on predawn Monday.

Dozens of Israeli soldiers raided Naalwa's family home in the Shweika village of Tulkarem, on predawn Monday, in preparation to demolish the building.

Locals told Ma'an that clashes erupted between Palestinian youths and Israeli soldiers.

Three Palestinian youths were detained during the raid.

Sources added that Israeli bulldozers demolished the three-story house before Israeli soldiers continued to carry out the demolition by hand.

Spokesperson of the Palestinian Red Crescent, Raed Yassin, told Ma’an that six Palestinians sustained wounds during clashes with Israeli forces in Shweika; two were transferred to the Thabet Thabet Hospital for treatment where their injuries were reported as light.

Dozens of Palestinians had gathered around Naalwa's family home, since late Sunday, in an attempt to prevent the demolition.

Naalwa had carried out a shooting attack, in October, in the Barkan industrial area, near the illegal Israeli settlement of Ariel, killing two Israelis and seriously injuring another.

The Israeli army had issued a punitive demolition order against Naalwa's family home in the Shweika village, in the northern occupied West Bank district of Tulkarem, in early November.

Naalwa was shot and killed in the Askar al-Jadid refugee camp, east of Nablus City, in the northern West Bank, last Thursday.
