Israeli forces deliver stop-construction notices in Salfit

HEBRON (Ma'an) -- The Israeli authorities delivered stop-construction notices to a Palestinian-owned house and three steel structures in the al-Zawiya town in western Salfit in the northern occupied West Bank, on Wednesday afternoon.

Al-Zawiya's mayor Naim Shqair said that Israeli forces delivered a notice to local Abdullah Abed al-Hali, ordering him to stop construction on his house that is located in western al-Zawiya.

Israeli forces also delivered notices of the same type to locals Iyad Shqair, Bashir Nour al-Din and Izzallah Hussain ordering the three to halt the construction on three steel structures they own.

Israel rarely grants Palestinians permits to build in the West Bank and occupied East Jerusalem, although the estimated 550,000 Jewish Israeli settlers in the occupied Palestinian territory are more easily given building permits and allowed to expand their homes and properties.

Nearly all Palestinian applications for building permits in Area C -- the more than 60 percent of the West Bank under full Israeli military control -- are denied by the Israeli authorities, forcing communities to build illegally.
