Man dies in Jenin after 'accidentally' being shot by hunting rifle

JENIN (Ma'an) -- A Palestinian man from the village of Qabatiya in the northern occupied West Bank district of Jenin was killed on Tuesday after "accidentally" being shot with his own rifle while hunting, according to Palestinian and Israeli sources. 

A member of the Fatah movement in Jenin told Ma’an that Yazan Nur Abu al-Rub, 22, was "mistakenly" struck by a gunshot from his hunting rifle while hunting in the area.

Palestinian police spokesman Luay Irzeiqat confirmed the news, saying that police have opened a probe into the accident. 

Meanwhile, the Israeli Civil Administration said in a statement that they had responded to a request from the Palestinian Red Crescent to help move an injured Palestinian from Jenin to the HaEmek Medical Center in the city of Afula in northern Israel. 

However, the statement added, the man's head injury was very critical, and he died on the way to the hospital.

None of the sources specified whether Abu al-Rub shot himself or if someone else accidentally fired the weapon.
