PA: West Bank-Jordan crossing to be closed at 6 p.m. due to weather

Jan. 25, 2016 4:00 P.M. (Updated: Jan. 25, 2016 4:00 P.M.)
JERICHO (Ma’an) -- The Allenby bridge crossing will close at 6 p.m. on Monday due to weather conditions, the Palestinian Authority’s director of borders and crossings department told Ma’an.

Nathmi Muhanna said the crossing, which is the sole West Bank-Jordan border crossing, will be closed for "safety concerns."

The Israeli-controlled Allenby Bridge crossing was named after the British general Edmund Allenby, who built the original bridge that crossed the Jordan River. Palestinians prefer to call the crossing Karameh, which means dignity, after a Jordanian border town where the 1968 Battle of Karameh took place between Israeli forces who fought against the PLO and the Jordanian army.
