JERUSALEM (Ma'an) -- Israeli police imposed restrictions on Palestinian access to the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem on Friday following a settler attack in the occupied West Bank which killed a Palestinian toddler, a mosque official said.

Azzam al-Khatib, General Director of the Jerusalem Endowment and Al-Aqsa Mosque Affairs, told Ma'an that men under 50 will not be allowed to attend Friday prayers.

There were no restrictions on women entering the mosque.

Israeli police have closed most of the gates leading to Al-Aqsa, with only the Lion Gate, Hatta Gate, Council Gate, and Chain Gate still open.

The closure comes amid the fear of unrest following a deadly arson attack by Israeli settlers in the West Bank which killed 18-month-old baby Ali Saad Dawabsha and injured three other members of his family.

The obvious question is: why aren't restrictions placed on the law-breakers - Israeli settlers and troops? It is THEY who are causing the trouble and it is THEY who should be kept out of Al Aqsa and Jerusalem.

@Legal Eagle / Australia Very good point. They have restricted children few days back to enter the Aqsa compound because of some Right-Wing settlers be on the compound. And few days later a Palestinian toddler is burn alive by right-Wing settlers. You figure.
