GAZA CITY (Ma'an) -- Eighteen suspected collaborators were killed by Hamas on Friday as the group announced a crackdown on Palestinians alleged to be working with Israel.

Seven men were shot dead in front of a mosque by men in Hamas military uniforms after Friday prayers, witnesses said.

The Hamas-affiliated al-Majd website said they were killed after legal procedures were completed against them. Suspects accused of collaboration are taken to "revolutionary military trials" presided over by security and legal experts, the site added.

Earlier, eleven Palestinians were killed by Hamas for allegedly collaborating with Israel.

A Ma'an reporter said two bodies were found near the al-Azhar University in Gaza City while several others were taken to al-Shifa medical center.

The 11 suspected collaborators were killed at a Gaza police station and had been sentenced by local courts, The Associated Press reported.

A day earlier, Hamas executed three alleged collaborators with Israel and arrested seven others.

It is believed the executions and arrests took place following the assassination of three senior Hamas military commanders at dawn on Tuesday.

Information passed to Israel's security services by Palestinian collaborators is often being used to make arrests and assassinate high-profile political and militant figures.

Under Palestinian law, collaboration with Israel is punishable by death.

However all execution orders must be approved by the president before they can be carried out. Hamas no longer recognizes the legitimacy of incumbent Mahmoud Abbas, whose four-year term ended in 2009.

UN rights chief Navi Pillay last year described the judicial process for death sentences in Gaza as "deeply flawed."

Navi Pillay supports the Hamas justice system. She only thinks it's flawed because she doesn't get to pull the triggers. The UNHRC not just a joke, it works against human rights and fails to protect Palestinians from Palestinians. Pillay gets paid hundreds of thousands of dollars a year to be blind and make sure that the UN does NOTHING to protect human rights around the planet. The UNHRC should be totally scrapped and start over, without any UN toadies whose goal is to protect their jobs.

They don't muck around do they? I wish the palestinian people had someone in charge who had a spine; Abbas is impotent.

@John?US : don't show your ignorance by linking IS to Hamas. The executing of INNOCENT people of Gaza in the last 6 weeks is done by Israel and still going on. Btw. US exucutes people too don't they? Don't try to be "holy". You are not.

Long live Hamas. Hamas was created to represent the voice of the people and Hamas is actually a democratically elected government and it is official but obviously the Israelis hate it that us Palestinians can resolve things between ourselves and that is dangerous for the Rothschild Zionist agenda.

I feel very very sorry for the average Gazan whose lives have been completely destroyed because of the Hamas singleminded trying to harm/destroy Israel agenda. The real victims are the many Gazans. Hamas is as evil as it gets.

When will Israelis and Palestinians realize that revenge has not worked for the last 70 years? Turn your back on the voices of hate on both sides. Ignore Hamas, Netanyahu, Settlers, pretend-religious Jews and Muslims. No real god of any faith will reward killing. Listen to the Gandhis who try to be heard above the racket of gunfire.

I would think that Jews(once-occupied persecuted people)of the world who remember their own Nazi collaborators, would APPLAUD(occupied, persecuted)people of Palestine for following Israel's Jewish Law &international LAWS,dealing with traitors! After all, what's "righteous" judgement upon Nazi collaborators, should be equally righteous for Palestinian people occupied/tortured by Zionist Israel?Or are ONLY Jews"righteous"?http://scholarship.law.duke.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=1766&context=dlj

Joe / USA # 8. Ghandi and Martin Luther King both preached against confrontation. they faced off against Britain and America. Both being of Christian / Judeo beliefs. As all "the world was watching" they saw what was right and changes occurred. But Israel is not dealing with the same mentality. Do you not see what has been going on for years now with Islam? Murder and mayhem. The leaders of Islamic countries do not care what the world thinks. They go about their killing ways. 150,000 in Syria

Hamas like any other political movement and sovereign country in the world, has the right to punish traitors or people who betray their own country in collusion with foreign enemies. The US is the champion in Death Penalty around the world. Fuerza Hamas ! Aguante Hamas ! Boycott to Israel in southamerica !

@Itzchak: Are you really sorry? Tell that to your government.. they murdered these innocent people. Don't try to wash your hands in innocence. Your government has blood on its hands. Palestinian lives were and are destroyed before Hamas. So.. save your crocodile tears. And oh yeah: we know the agenda of Israel: to continue stealing until you have it all.

Spying for the zionists is a real danger to Palestinians, many died because of that. The zionists execute many many innocent Palestinians. (shoot first ask later policy) And many of them are children. Hamas have given these spy's the option: stop or be executed. If the spy is sorry, they let him live. The zionists just shoot without asking, lives don't mean nothing to them (unless it's a zionist)

Huge double standard. Hamas is held to no standard of justice, while Israel is held to the highest standard of justice.

Hamas applied due process before killing their fellow Arabs. In one case the due process was one Hamas person who decided that seven were guilty and shot them. What is amazing is that some fellow Arabs support this. Where is the outcry against this from Arabs or leftists?

Joe, the solution is extremely simple: Israel frees Gaza and allows the Palestinian people to decide their own future. But Israel, under the guise of "the right to self defense" (which obviously the Palestinians don't have), does not want to give up the control over Gaza and West Bank, and is stealing more Palestinian land as I write here. As soon as the international community forces Israel to stop this, there will be peace.

The gruesome images from Gaza ought to have dispelled Egyptian and Israeli illusions that Hamas, any more than the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, seeks a political solution of the Gaza conflict. What these Palestinian extremists want is a bloodbath.

I am AMAZED that an Irishman (ARE you an Irishman 24 or a NI Prod?) could fail to understand the plight of the people of Gaza after the many years that Ireland was subjugated by the British.

Comparing Hamas to ISIS is awfully flawed. Hamas is a resistance movement born to oppose Israeli oppression and land stealing. ISIS is a bunch of lunatics that filled the power void left behind by US destruction of Iraq, and quite possibly a more direct US creation. All sane people have seen this coming and have warned US about it. Back to Hamas, they are not so different to the Jews resistance during WWII, and during their fight for independence. Read a bit, make your own opinion.

Brian Cohen the hypocrite, the UN fail to protect Palestinians from genocidal Zionist Israel. You Israelis are war criminals who should be hanged from lamp posts as an example to those who contemplate genocide. Your country and it's citizens are pariahs in the civilised world.

Jon (21), your solution WAS tried back in 2004, when Ariel Sharon dragged every Israeli out of Gaza and let the Gazan's show what they could accomplish. Results: millions of dollars of greenhouses, farm buildings, equipment, etc., were looted or destroyed. They COULD have been used the very next day to create thousands of jobs. But Hamas's hatred wouldn't let that happen. Then Hamas got caught importing heavy weapons. So the blockade went up. Israel wants nothing to do with Gaza. Wake up.

29 ) Patrick O'Shaughnessy / Ireland

@ 28 David/USA - Move forward, this is 2014, as to the greenhouses, I'd have done the same thing; out of sheer frustration, anger & resentment. Stop the patronising attitude, Sharon wasn't being a benefactor leaving the agricultural equipment behind. As to importing heavy weapons, Israel's done a pretty good job itself, under US patronage of course. I agree with Jon (21), well said.
