HEBRON (Ma'an) -- Israeli forces shot and killed one person and injured another in the Hebron district on Wednesday, medics said.

Witnesses told Ma'an that Israeli soldiers traveling in a civilian car opened fire at a group of people at the entrance to al-Arrub refugee camp south of Bethlehem.

Lubna Munir Hanash, 22, was shot in the head and died from her injuries, medics said.

Suad Yusuf Jaara was shot in the hand and transported to Ahli hospital in Hebron.

Witnesses told Ma'an that after the shooting Israeli soldiers prevented an ambulance from arriving at the scene for around 10 minutes.

Locals said there were no clashes in the area at the time.

An Israeli army spokeswoman said that "soldiers were attacked by Palestinians who hurled multiple firebombs at them while they were traveling near al-Arrub. Soldiers returned fire and the circumstances of the incident are currently being reviewed."

Israeli soldiers searched the area and found several firebombs ready for use, she said, adding that no soldiers were injured in the incident.

Earlier on Wednesday, Salih al-Amarin, 15, died of his wounds in an Israeli hospital after being shot in the head during clashes with Israeli soldiers in a refugee camp in Bethlehem on Friday.

That incident followed a spate of fatal shootings by Israeli soldiers that killed four Palestinians in a week.

Palestinian Authority Prime Minister Salam Fayyad issued a statement calling for "strong condemnation from the international community" of these shootings, and urged "immediate intervention to compel Israel to desist from these serious attacks on our people."

Reuters contributed to this report.

Drive-by shooting: a new low, not even a pretense of military discipline.

For your safety: Do not throw rocks, moldova, or anything else at IDF or anyone else or at cars, stay out of riots. The IDF will NOT hesitate to shoot you. Do not go near borders, or near military posts, do not gang up against pedestrians, or destroy property, train, buses, etc. Respect the rules of the country you live in. That's if you don't want to loose your life sooner than expected.

Peter please post - you're posts suggest you are young and naive. May I suggest you do a bit of research on the behaviour of the IOF before being so ready to blame the victims. I would recommend you start with "Breaking the Silence" then go on to "If Americans Knew" - plenty for you to be getting on with... Oh and there's you-tube too.

seven weeks of riots here in Belfast, over 100 policemen injured. Number of rioters injured - zero. Says something about how Israel responds to protests - oh, and I do not I believe there was even necessarily any civil disorder going on in the first place.

Israel is a terror state against the Palestinians. This is sad, & th eUN nor US govt will give any speeches condemning the heinous murder of innocent Palestinian woman civilian by terroristy Zionist thugs.

Carine you are from UK and see things with a wider lence. You know it as we all know it. The truth is that the IDF will NOT hesitate to shoot at anyone who disregard the rules. Do not go near borders, or near military posts, do not gang up against pedestrians, or destroy property, train, buses, etc. Respect the rules of the country you live in. That's if you don't want to loose your life sooner than expected.

You'll have to excuse Abu Mazen & the incompetent leaders of the Palestinian security services who were too busy tucking into their filet mignons to actually give a damn. Abbas has no problem announcing "Military Zones" in Palestinian refugee camps but can't be bothered to even life a finger against the occupation forces.

1- They were NOT "murderers", but only attempted murderers,
who were killed in self-defense, by their intented IDF Victims,
2- It was NOT a "Drive-by shooting", but rather "Drive-by", fire-bombing,
and the attempted bombers were killed in self-defense,
4- Being killed by Israeli bullets does NOT make them any more victims today, than the warrior Goliath, the Philistine being killed in ~1400 BCE, by (King) David's sling and stone, and
6- "Sad" Yes, but NOT "heinous" or "murder" !!!!

What amazes and confounds me is that the western media continue to allow the crimes and murders of the racist/terrorist IOF and their Settler thugs to continue and absolve the perpetrators almost immediately and then go on to blame the victim(s). Lazy cowardly biased journalism.

To Ghassan #8 '[#3 Peter] "Respect the rules of the country you live in". ..' Just take Peter at his word. Okay...Israel is the country these Palestinians live in. But Israel is a democracy. So these Palestinians must be entitled to the vote. So why can't they vote?

#7 - The tuth is that the IOF have developed a penchant for shooting UNARMED Palestinians in the head or the back, sometimes both. Read the article - why were Israeli soldiers driving a CIVILIAN car at the entrance to a Palestinian refugee camp? Were they out on a jolly? There were no clashes in the area at the time, which makes the IOF statement, as usual, dubious.

Near Hebron, "Israeli vehicles could have been looking for" - Abraham, Sarah, Isaac, Rebecca, Jacob, or Leah, or Near Bethlehem, "Israeli vehicles could have been looking for" - Jesse, King David (son of Jesse), or Rachel (wife of Jacob), but it is unlikely they would be looking for "Jesus" in either place !!

the late professor Israel Shahak, a Holocaust survivor, and chairman of the Israeli League for Human and Civil Rights , famously wrote: “There is nothing new in the fact that Israel is a terrorist state, which, almost from its inception, has used its intelligence service to assassinate people on foreign soil with any violence or terror it considers necessary for its ends.” @ http://samibedouin.wordpress.com/2009/09/20/death-penalty-a-state-of-assassins/

- Yes, of course I read the news (Do you?), which said the dead woman "hurled multiple firebombs" (above) at the IDF soldiers,
that killed her. And, thus it is Fact, rather than "just hasbara", and
- Since you would probably feel differently, if the event involved Australian Aborigines hurling bombs at Australian soldiers (instead of Arabs at Jews),
you should also realize that when you look into a mirror, there is
"a bit demented" evil racist staring back at you from the mirror !!!

21 ) gabi / australia
25/01/2013 00:23
# 20 - no, read it again. it did NOT say the dead woman hurled multiple fire bombs. You have put your own spin on this, in your efforts to (always) justify IDF actions. Our Aborigines are highly unlikely to hurl firebombs at our army. Or at anyone. UNLESS they were attacked by our soldiers first. (Which, also, is highly unlikely.)

#16 @ Elise-11 / USA too "...but it is unlikely they would be looking for "Jesus" in either place !!" I don't see why not (esp. in this surreal conversation). Jesus was obviously in Bethlehem (though I don't think he went to Hebron). And of course, you couldn't really FIND Abraham, Sarah, Isaac, Rebecca, Jacob, Rachel, Leah, Nethlehem, Jesse or King David...because they're all dead. Unlike Jesus who is still alive. So, all in all, a better chance of meeting him really.

#10 "4- Being killed by Israeli bullets does NOT make them any more victims today, than the warrior Goliath, the Philistine being killed in ~1400 BCE, by (King) David's sling and stone..." I've a soft spot for biblical references (also weird) and take it you mean David and Goliath were soldiers on the battlefield. David won. Goliath was killed but he's not a "victim", he's a dead soldier, a casualty of war. Point taken. So, if you can establish that Lubna Munir al-Hanash, may her soul rest

24 ) ian / australia
25/01/2013 06:20
(contd.) in perfect peace, and Suad Jaara were soldiers attacking innocent reservists in their (civilian) car...not young women visiting a refugee camp college campus, as it has emerged...then they should be regarded as militants killed in self defense, rather than "victims" of a sadistic attack or in Lubnah's case, murder and a martyr. (BTW, 1400BC is too early for King David who is usually dated 1040-970 BC. If he killed Goliath as a young teen, as the Bible says, then around 1026 BC,

But I can't REALLY imagine that describes gabi, not from the comments here. There might be a few psychos in Australia but mainly when we look in the mirror we see citizens of a decent country which has made ammends for a racist past by extending full citizenship and rights to ALL Australians. It's nice. Try it.

Israel is not engaged in apartheid. It is engaged in Genocide just as the US has been with regards to the peoples who lived here before us. All of us in the US and Israel need to stand up, like at an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting and say "Hi, my name is xxxx and I am a beneficiary of genocide." Until we can all of us acknowledge that reality, confront it, we will not be able to change it, and the slaughter and resistance will continue.

To Gabi #18. I think what you've read at #10 is an example of 'black' propaganda. The poster is a Zionist, and he's trying to convert the claim that the victim was throwing a firebomb into accepted fact. They probably teach them to do this at hasbara school.
