GAZA CITY (Ma'an) -- The Gaza government called on Thursday for the immediate resignation of a PLO official who was quoted in the press as agreeing to a conditional recognition of Israel as a Jewish state.

Secretary-General Yasser Abed Rabbo was quoted in the Israeli daily Haaretz as saying the PLO would recognize Israel "according to the formulation of the government within the hour" if Israel agreed to 1967 borders.

According to the daily, Abed Rabbo said "Any formulation the Americans present – even asking us to call Israel the 'Chinese State' – we will agree to it, as long as we receive the 1967 borders. We have recognized Israel in the past, but Israel has not recognized the Palestinian state."

However, Abed Rabbo told Ma'an he had only spoken with Agence France-Presse over the issue.

Gaza government spokesman Taher An-Nunu said Abed Rabbo's statements did not represent the Palestinian national consensus, and gave dangerous concessions to Israel. Further, he said the statements betrayed Palestinian refugees by undermining their right to return to their land.

An-Nunu said Abed Rabbo's comments proved that the current PLO leadership could not be trusted to act in the interests of Palestinians, and called for the restructuring of the organization.

PLO Executive Committee member Wasel Abu Yusuf said Wednesday that the PLO refused Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's offer that Israel would stop building settlements on Palestinian land for two months if the Palestinian Authority recognized Israel as a Jewish state.

The PLO officially recognized the State of Israel, and its right to exist in peace and security, in 1993. However negotiators say recognizing Israel as a Jewish state would endanger the civil rights of the Palestinian minority in the country, and forfeit the right of return for refugees.

Once again....... the Palestinians put forth a fine example of continued failure to even agree amongst themelves !!!!!!

At what point do the Palestinians protect the civil rights of Jews living in the Palestinian territories? Will they affirm the same rights they demand for themselves, or with they ethnically cleanse the State of Palestine while demanding that Israel accept every Palestinian?

once again? what you are talking about. once again the american and zionists gangs are playing their ridiculous games with the palestinians. 2 month freeze for the recognition of an jewish only state? a slap in the face for nothing...fuck them all. including the bastards from the PA!

#1 It's called DEMOCRACY. Can you say D E M O C R A C Y The people exercised their democratic right, and unfortunately, they selected Hamas. Now deal with it senhor Filipe, rather than inciting all the way from Lisbon. Why do you care anyway, shouldn't you be dealing with the array of problems in Portugal, like illegal immigration and unemployment?

2) I doubt they will make them swear an oath of loyalty to a democratic Muslim Arab State of Palestine, as only racial-supremacist nuts like Lieberman and Shas dream up that kind of fascist nonsense. The PA has said often enough that it will treat settlers who remain exactly as Israel treats its Arab citizens, so that should be encouraging for you, no? If you're worried about ethnic cleansing, you should write to the Government of Israel to protest, as they're the only ones doing it.

abu kowla #3 I am glad to see your unity spirit

I love to belabor the point, as I've said previsously, the brothers just can't along with each other

3) Kalle, your language helps to display the extent of your ignorance

It's not a "Jewish Only State", all faiths are free to live in Israel, just as long as they abide by the Laws of a Jewish State

They can recognize the state of not, the door is open for them to leave,
you may now return to your crater in the moon, you're not fit to be above the surface

2) Buddhists, Hindus, Jews, Atheists, Christians and Muslims will all be welcome in Palestinian State, as Palestinians, because Palestine is not a theocracy. Palestine must be a secular and free democracy with basic civil rights guaranteed to all. The current Jews living in the West Bank are illegal settlers and have no intent on living in Palestine as Palestinians. In fact there intent is to ethnically cleanse as much Palestinian land as possible to make part of their exclusive Jewish State.

Mr. Abed Rabbo, I agree with Hamas on this one. You need to clarify and retract you comments or resign immediately. The language you and others in the PA use reflects the fact that you are tired and defeated. God bless you all but it is time for you to step aside and make way for new leaders who are not so willing to throw away basic Palestinian rights in return for meaningless "concessions". Allah Ya3teekoum Al3afyeh.....please hold new elections and impose term limits on all. Enough already!

Victor, What the hell are you talking about? all the non-Palestinian Jews over the green line are ILLEGAL settlers and you know it. The Palestinian Jews I met in Nablus love being citizens of Palestine, are totally appalled with Israel's conduct, and say they would never move to the part of Palestine currently called Israel

I think accepting the Israeli Republic on the 1967 borders is reasonable if Palestinians living there are guaranteed equal rights and equal opportunities. If a country is based on religion, Christians have had to accept the vatican as representative of them for centuries. Is Israel a race, obviously not. It is a religion, and as a religion, for them to be racist seems just a little too revealing.

BEN JABO, thank God you explained it so well. So I as a Jew, so long as I obey the laws of the Christian United States of America and recognize the United States of America as a Christian state, I won't get into trouble. And when some of those Christians decide to blow up my house because it doesn't meet the housing code, despite the fact that it is built better than all the Christian homes in my town, I should take it with equanimity.

John, you are writing garbage as usual. Hamas is already setting about creating a Sharia state. Abbas told the Arab league he would ethnically cleanse Palestine of Jews.
Israel has always been recognised by the international community as a homeland for the Jews. What they are doing is forcing the issue to the forefront in order to show the world that Islamic Arabs will never accept that.

Speaking personally, I thought it was a good bluff to pull. Looks like the Israeli cabinet is not taking him up on the offer though! The idea of a Jewish state is a new pre-condition. The treaties with neither Jordan nor Egypt contain it, and Shimon Peres wrote the Jordanian one. Yet the treaties have been successful and Israel has a working relationship with both. So is this recognition necessary for Israel's security? Absolutely not.

Your fictional version of the safety of all minorites is disputed by the facts

Copts in Egypt are persecuted by Muslim Egyptians
Christian's in Iraq are afraid to go to Church, they live in fear of their Muslim neighbors
Jews in Iran fled in fear of their, for the same reasons, on 20% of the Orignal Jews still remain
Ditto for Algeria, Morocco and Yemen, or fot that matter any other Muslim country that Jews resided

Non-Muslims are Dhimmi's, to be subservient to Muslims

I don't know or care what you taught in school, it certainly wasn't history or how to tell the truth

The USA is a Judeo-Christian State, look it up !

You also said you follow the laws, does that happen to include the law against Plagarism, to which you have admitted to being a practioner of ?

In recent posts you've attempted to incite killings, now you're talking of blowing things up, rather bloodthirsty I would say from a non-participant

I must admire your generosity, wanting Israel to revert to the '67 Borders that were agreed to in 1949 at Rhodes, and that were subsequenlty rejected by the Arabs when they crossed those very same borders to attack Israel in 1967

No dear, that just isn't going to happen, not in your wildest dreams
You know the old saying "Foole me once, etc", guess what Israel isn't going to get fooled again

Maureeen - It's best you shush up, w ealready know you're an idiot

#19) Your people already gave away any rights they may have had when they chose war instead of peace with Israel back in 1948 and onward.
If you want to change the situation for the better, try the God's one state solution. Jeremiah 12:14-17.

@12 Agreed Sarah but this is not going to happen (Apartheid State will continue to settle since it comes at almost no cost). Next step is shredding Egypt and Jordan's peace treaties with the apartheid entity to pieces. 99% of Egyptians and Jordanians are against the phony peace treaty with the corpse that is "Israel" - The people can't be ignored forever. You can ignore them for a few years and decades at the most, but their self-determination will not be supressed for long.

Ben Jabo. Which "Jewish" sect will Israel follow, given the fact Judaism is religion and not race?
