Israel to confiscate 139 dunams for settlement project near Ramallah

Jan. 10, 2019 1:30 P.M. (Updated: Jan. 11, 2019 4:45 P.M.)
RAMALLAH (Ma'an) -- The Israeli Ministry of Finance issued building permits for a settlement project that would confiscate 139 dunams of Palestinian lands from the Deir Dibwan village in eastern Ramallah and al-Bireh district in the central occupied West Bank.

The National Bureau for the Defense of Land reported, in a statement issued on Thursday, that Israel aims to connect the Maale Mikhmas and Mitzpeh Dani illegal settlements through these lands.

The bureau added that the Israeli government put forward a plan approving 2500 settlement units near the Ifrat settlement south of the southern West Bank district of Bethlehem.

Since the occupation of the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, in 1967, between 500,000 and 600,000 Israelis have moved into Israeli settlements in occupied Palestinian territory, in violation of international law.

The estimated 196 government recognized Israeli settlements scattered across the Palestinian territory are all considered illegal under international law.
