Palestinian prisoner to be released after 30 years of imprisonment

RAMALLAH (Ma'an) -- The Palestinian Prisoner’s Society (PPS) confirmed on Wednesday, that Palestinian prisoner, Samir Saleh Sirsawi ,52, from Haifa district, in northern Israel, will be released after 30 years of imprisonment.

According to PPS, Sirsawi was supposed to be released in 2014 in a deal brokered by former United States Secretary of State, John Kerry, in which Israel would release all Palestinian prisoners held since before the signing of the Oslo Accords in 1993.

However, Israel revoked the deal.

Sirsawi was among 28 Palestinian prisoners, who remain imprisoned since before 1993, 12 of them from cities inside Israel.

According to prisoners rights group Addameer, there are 5,580 Palestinian prisoners being held in Israeli prisons.
