Erekat: 'Israel should be condemned at UN, not Hamas'

Nov. 21, 2018 1:54 P.M. (Updated: Nov. 22, 2018 10:58 A.M.)
RAMALLAH (Ma'an) -- Secretary General of the Palestine Liberation Organization's (PLO) Executive Committee, Saeb Erekat, denounced, on Wednesday, United States’ efforts at the United Nations to condemn the Hamas movement, stressing that “Israel should be condemned for its war crimes record against the Palestinian people.”

Erekat posted a tweet on his personal twitter account, in which he reacted to efforts by outgoing US ambassador to the UN, Nikki Haley, to get the UN General Assembly (UNGA) to condemn Hamas for firing rockets at Israel, which came “in retaliation for Israeli air force pounding of the Gaza Strip with hundreds of bombs, demolishing high rises and killing at least 15 people.”

He described Haley’s draft resolution to the UNGA calling for the condemnation of Hamas as “an attempt to overturn the facts.”

Erekat stressed, “The international community should condemn and hold the Israeli occupation authority accountable for its continued war crimes against the Palestinian people,” calling on the international community “to thwart Haley’s project.”
