Israel releases 16-year-old Palestinian

JERUSALEM (Ma'an) -- The Israeli authorities released a Palestinian teen from Jerusalem City, in the central West Bank, after he finished his 6-month prison sentence, late Wednesday.

A Ma'an reporter said that Israel released Bilal Khalil Muhammad Ghatit, 16, from the Sheikh Jarrah, who was detained on April 5, 2017.

Bilal was transferred to house arrest on May 17, 2017 under which he had spent an entire year before being re-detained by Israeli forces on June 24, 2018 and then released on Wednesday night from the Meggido jail.

According to Palestinian prisoners rights group Addameer, as of July, there are 5,820 Palestinian prisoners being held in Israeli prisons, 270 of whom are child prisoners, and 50 are under the age of 16.
