In video - Fires break out in Israeli communities near Gaza

GAZA CITY (Ma'an) -- Several fires broke out, on Monday, near an Israeli community surrounding the besieged Gaza Strip, at least one of them was a result of incendiary balloons launched by Palestinians from Gaza.

According to Hebrew-language news outlets, Palestinians launched dozens of incendiary balloons from Gaza towards Israeli communities surrounding the Strip.

Four fires broke out in various areas near the Israeli kibbutz of Saad and at least one of the fires was caused due to the launch of incendiary balloons.

Israeli forces are currently investigating the causes of the outbreak of the rest of the fires.

Additionally, residents from the Israeli communities surrounding Gaza were quick to link the launch of incendiary balloons to the recent decision of Israeli Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman's decision to reopen the Erez crossing (Beit Hanoun), claiming that the reopening was a victory for the Hamas movement.

In July, it was reported that about 6,000 dunams (1482.6 acres) of agricultural produce as well as thousands of dunams of open fields were burned due to about 678 fires caused by incendiary kites and balloons flown from inside the Gaza Strip.

Palestinians in Gaza view the incendiary kites as a form of protest against Israel's nearly 12-year blockade of Gaza and for Palestinian refugees right of return to their homes and lands which are now known as Israel.
