Ceasefire declared following violent night in Gaza

GAZA CITY (Ma'an) -- The Hamas and Islamic Jihad movements declared willingness to cease fire midnight Friday following Israeli escalation that left four Palestinians killed.

Spokesperson of the Hamad movement in Gaza, Fawzi Barhoum, said that the previous state of ceasefire between Israel and Palestinian factions was restored following Egyptian and international efforts.

Hebrew-language Walla news site reported that the United Nation's (UN) Middle East Envoy, Nikolay Mladenov, had made intensive calls between Hamas and Israel declaring that ceasefire was reached as the two parties are unwilling to escalate.

Israel declared on Friday night that its forces targeted 60 alleged Hamas sites in the Gaza Strip after an Israeli soldiers was shot dead at the Gazan borders by resistance fighters.

The Ynet news site reported that an Israeli soldier succumbed to critical wounds he sustained on Friday afternoon during armed clashes between Israeli forces and resistance fighters near the Gaza Strip border.
