GAZA (Ma'an) -- Two Palestinian youths dead, eight others injured, and many suffered various burns during a tragic explosion in the besieged Gaza Strip, on Sunday, according to the Ministry of Health in Gaza.

A local Ma'an reporter said that the explosion took place in a building belonging to the al-Arair family in the al-Shajaiye neighborhood, which led to a large fire that caused two deaths and many injuries among the residents.

Local sources told Ma'an that they speculate that a fireworks workshop exploded causing such casualties in the area.

The Ministry of Health in Gaza confirmed the death of two youths in the explosion, and identified them as Muayed Haid Halas, 17, and Diaa Majed al-Areer, 17. The ministry also confirmed that eight others were injured, and three of them are still in critical condition.
