BETHLEHEM (Ma’an) -- A Palestinian man died in Israeli custody on Sunday when he succumbed to wounds sustained last week when he was shot by Israeli forces at a checkpoint in the northern occupied West Bank city of Tulkarem.
The Palestinian Prisoner’s Society (PPS) released a statement saying that Muhammad Anbar, 46, who was shot and injured by Israeli forces on April 2, died of his wounds on Sunday morning in an Israeli hospital.
Anbar was being held at the at Meir hospital in Tel Aviv when he was pronounced dead.
According to PPS, he was shot and injured by Israeli forces “under mysterious circumstances” at a military checkpoint near Tulkarem city before being detained and transferred to an Israeli hospital.
PPS held Israel responsible for Anbar’s death, noting that his death marked the 214th Palestinian who has died in Israeli custody.
