Israeli forces open fire on Palestinian fishermen, injuring 3

GAZA CITY (Ma’an) -- Israeli naval forces opened fire on Palestinian fisherman as they were sailing along the coast of the Gaza Strip on Thursday, injuring three.

Local sources told Ma’an that three fishermen were injured with live ammunition.

The fishermen, whose identities remained unknown, were transferred to the al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City, in the northern Gaza Strip.

They were reported to be in moderate condition.

The Israeli army regularly detains and opens fire on unarmed Palestinian fishermen while sailing off the coast of Gaza.

As part of Israel's blockade of the coastal enclave since 2007, the Israeli army, citing security concerns, requires Palestinian fishermen to work within a limited "designated fishing zone," the exact limits of which are decided by the Israeli authorities and have historically fluctuated.
