BETHLEHEM (Ma’an) -- Israeli forces shot and injured four Palestinian protesters during clashes along the border of the besieged Gaza Strip on Friday, according to official Palestinian Authority (PA)-owned Wafa news agency.

Wafa reported that the Israeli army opened fire on protesters, who were participating in ongoing demonstrations against US President Donald Trump’s December announcement recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

In the northern Gaza Strip, east of Beit Hanoun, Israeli forces shot and injured one Palestinian with live ammunition. The Palestinian, whose identity remained unknown, was transferred to hospital and reported to be in critical condition.

Another Palestinian was injured with live ammunition at protests near the Nahal Oz military base east of Gaza city, while several others suffered from severe tear gas inhalation.

Two other protesters were injured with live ammunition during protests east of the town of Jabaliya town, as well as to the north of Beit Lahiya town, both in the northern Gaza Strip.
