Protesters in Switzerland demand Trump rescind his Jerusalem decision

Feb. 5, 2018 12:18 P.M. (Updated: Feb. 5, 2018 5:26 P.M.)
BETHLEHEM (Ma’an) -- Hundreds of protesters in the Swiss capital of Bern held a demonstration on Saturday, denouncing US President Donald Trump’s December decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

Protesters carried banners through the centre of the Swiss capital calling on America and Israel to respect international law.

In a press release at the end of the demonstration, organizers called on the Federal Council (the Swiss cabinet) to officially recognize Palestine as a state.

They also demanded an end to Swiss-Israeli military cooperation and imported Israeli products made in settlements in the occupied Palestinian territory.

The rally was organised by several Palestinian associations and the Swiss-Palestinian society.

In late December, following weeks of anti-Trump protests across the region, a majority of UN member states including Switzerland, passed a resolution calling on the US government to withdraw the decision.
