BETHLEHEM (Ma'an) -- Israeli forces detained at least four Palestinians between Thursday night and Friday in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem.

A Palestinian was detained in the northern West Bank district of Tulkarem, as clashes erupted with Palestinians and Israeli forces, according to Israeli sources.

Israeli police spokesperson Luba al-Samri said in a statement that a Palestinian man in his 30s was detained on Thursday night for driving a stolen Israeli vehicle near the village of Silwad in the Ramallah district. Al-Samri said the vehicle was stolen in 2012.

Al-Samri added that the Palestinian, a resident of al-Mazraa al-Sharqiya village in Ramallah, had attempted to escape from Israeli forces. However, Israeli forces were still able to detain him.

In occupied East Jerusalem, two minors were also detained over suspicions that they were involved in rock-throwing incidents at the light rail in Jerusalem last week, according to al-Samri.

In the southern Hebron district, Israeli forces had confiscated a Carlo Gustav rifle, another gun, and ammunition during a raid in the village of Yatta, Israeli sources reported.

An Israeli army spokesperson told Ma’an that only one Palestinian was detained in the West Bank overnight. However, she was unable to provide the location of the detention.

According to prisoners’ rights group Addameer, 6,279 Palestinians were detained by Israel as of August. The group has estimated that some 40 percent of Palestinian men will be detained by Israel at some point in their lives.
