PA cabinet announces 5-day holiday for Eid al-Adha

Aug. 22, 2017 4:13 P.M. (Updated: Aug. 22, 2017 4:13 P.M.)
RAMALLAH (Ma'an) -- The Palestinian Authority (PA) announced on Tuesday that all governmental organizations would be closed from August 31 until September 4, 2017, for the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Adha, while criticizing the current political climate in Israel and the occupied Palestinian territory.

According to a statement, issued following the weekly meeting of the cabinet of ministers, the cabinet said that "Eid comes as Al-Aqsa mosque wails under the oppression of ongoing Israeli assaults and incursions."

The statement added that this year, “Eid coincides with an increasing Israeli campaign to steal Palestinian land for illegal Israeli settlements.”

The cabinet went on to criticize the current peace process, saying “any future negotiations should focus on ending Israeli occupation of the state of Palestine within a given timeframe, as well as reaching a comprehensive agreement that addresses all final status issues based on granting the Palestinian people their legitimate rights."
