Israeli military vehicles level lands in southern Gaza

Aug. 21, 2017 2:01 P.M. (Updated: Aug. 21, 2017 3:53 P.M.)
GAZA (Ma’an) -- Israeli military vehicles staged an incursion to level lands in the border area of the southern besieged Gaza Strip on Monday morning, witnesses told Ma’an.

Locals in Gaza told Ma’an that Israeli military vehicles leveled lands “tens of meters” inside the border line, in the eastern part of the Khazaa town, located in the Khan Yunis district.

An Israeli army spokesperson said they were looking into reports.

Israeli military incursions inside the besieged Gaza Strip and near the “buffer zone," which lies on both land and sea sides of Gaza, have long been a near-daily occurrence.

The Israeli army also regularly detains and opens fire on unarmed Palestinian fishermen, shepherds, and farmers along the border areas if they approach the buffer zone, as the authorities have not made clear the precise area of the designated zone.

The practice has in effect destroyed much of the agricultural and fishing sector of the blockaded coastal enclave, which marked its tenth year under the crippling Israeli blockade in June.
