GAZA (Ma’an) -- Israeli military vehicles staged an incursion to level lands in the border area of the besieged Gaza Strip on Monday morning, witnesses told Ma’an.

The eyewitnesses said four Israeli bulldozers and two excavators entered Palestinian lands east of al-Bureij refugee camp in the central Gaza Strip and leveled lands in the area.

The witnesses said Israeli forces did not open fire on Palestinians during the operation.

An Israeli army spokesperson told Ma’an that they were looking into the reports.

Israeli military incursions inside the besieged Gaza Strip and near the “buffer zone," which lies on both land and sea sides of Gaza, have long been a near-daily occurrence.

The Israeli army also regularly detains and opens fire on unarmed Palestinian fishermen, shepherds, and farmers along the border areas if they approach the buffer zone, as the authorities have not made clear the precise area of the designated zone.

The practice has in effect destroyed much of the agricultural and fishing sector of the blockaded coastal enclave, which marked its tenth year under the crippling Israeli blockade in June.
