2 Palestinians reportedly injured during clashes in Nablus area

BETHLEHEM (Ma'an) -- Israeli forces reportedly shot and injured two Palestinians after raiding the northern occupied West Bank district of Nablus on Tuesday, according to official Palestinian news agency Wafa.

Wafa cited Palestinian security sources as saying that Israeli forces stormed the district, provoking clashes in "various locations" in the Nablus area.

Most of the clashes were reportedly concentrated to the east of Nablus’ central market, where Israeli forces used live ammunition, rubber-coated steel bullets, and tear gas canisters against residents, shooting and injuring two youths.

One of the wounded was shot in the shoulder with a live bullet whereas the other was struck with a rubber-coated steel bullet. They were reportedly transferred to hospital for medical treatment.

An Israeli army spokesperson told Ma'an they were looking into reports.

During predawn raids Tuesday morning, Israeli forces detained two Palestinian in the village of Tell southwest of Nablus, according to Wafa. An Israeli army spokesperson only confirmed one of the detentions, and also said one Palestinian was detained in Beit Eiba and another in Ein Beit El Mai refugee camp in the Nablus district. A total of at least 28 detentions where carried out across the West Bank overnight.

The Israeli army has been the target of condemnation for years for its excessive use of force against Palestinians. The Palestinian Red Crescent released a statement on Monday saying that 1,090 Palestinians were injured in the occupied territory over a ten-day period, since Israeli forces began violently suppressing demonstrations and marches against the procedures at Al-Aqsa Mosque about ten days ago.
