RAMALLAH (Ma'an) -- Israeli forces erected a blockade around the central occupied West Bank village of al-Mughayyir northeast of Ramallah on Sunday night, sparking clashes with local Palestinians.

Israeli troops raided the village and set up concrete barriers at both the eastern and western entrances to the village, locals told Ma'an.

Clashes subsequently broke out between Israeli soldiers and locals who hurled stones and empty bottles at Israeli military vehicles and trucks that were installing the concrete barricades.

Israeli soldiers fired tear gas, stun grenades, and rubber-coated steel bullets at the protesters, though no injuries were reported.

An Israeli army spokesperson told Ma'an they were looking into reports.

The clashes came after three Palestinians were detained by Israeli forces in a predawn military raid in al-Mughayyir on Sunday.

Palestinian communities are routinely subjected to arbitrary road closures by Israeli military forces for purported "security reasons," an act which rights groups have denounced as amounting to collective punishment.
