GAZA (Ma’an) -- A fighter with the Islamic Jihad succumbed to his wounds after being critically injured in an accident in the besieged Gaza Strip eight days earlier, the group said in a statement on Thursday.

The statement said that 24-year-old member of the engineering unit of the al-Quds Brigades -- Islamic Jihad’s military wing -- Kamil Taysir Qriqi died after an accident at a “resistance post” on April 26.

Islamic Jihad added that the accident occurred during “preparative works” at the site.

Gaza Ministry of Health spokesman Ashraf al-Qidra told Ma’an at the time that another Palestinian had been moderately wounded in the accident.
