BETHLEHEM (Ma'an) -- A video was released on Friday showing 15 masked Israeli settlers attacking members of the Taayush organization -- an Israeli and Palestinian nonviolent direct action group, in the central occupied West Bank, while activists were assisting Palestinian shepherds.
The video shows the Israeli settlers running at the activists throwing rocks and hitting them with clubs.
“These people feel that they can do what they want, and it is a very frightening situation,” he reportedly said.
According to Raz, five of the activists were wounded, with one injured in the head.
Spokespersons for the Israeli army and police were not immediately available to comment on the incident.
Between 500,000 and 600,000 Israelis live in Jewish-only settlements across occupied East Jerusalem and the West Bank in violation of international law, with recent announcements of settlement expansion provoking condemnation from the international community.
According to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), there were a total of 221 reported settler attacks against Palestinians and their properties in the West Bank and occupied East Jerusalem in 2015, and 107 in 2016.
The majority of settler attacks committed against Palestinians are met with impunity, with Israelis rarely facing consequences for such attacks.
