Israel detains Palestinian at Allenby for attempting to bring in Roman statue

Feb. 8, 2017 7:07 P.M. (Updated: Feb. 8, 2017 7:07 P.M.)
BETHLEHEM (Ma’an) -- Israeli forces detained a Palestinian youth on Tuesday while he attempted to return to the occupied West Bank from Jordan through the Allenby Bridge.

According to Hebrew language news sites, the unidentified youth from the Nablus district village of Beita was detained for allegedly attempting to bring a small Roman statue from Jordan into the Palestinian territory.

There are strict regulations on the transporting of products between Jordan and the West Bank.

Sites reported that the youth had said during interrogations with Israeli authorities that he had bought the statue from a commercial shop in Jordan.

His court session will reportedly be held on Thursday, when Israeli authorities will decide whether or not to extend his detention.
