Israeli forces raid Palestinian village after resident injured in altercation with soldiers

RAMALLAH (Ma’an) -- Israeli forces raided the central occupied West Bank village of Abud at dawn on Thursday, sparking clashes hours after a Palestinian was wounded and detained during an exchange of gunfire with Israeli soldiers.

An Israeli army spokesperson told Ma'an on Wednesday that shots were fired at Israeli soldiers from a passing vehicle near Abud in the Ramallah district on Wednesday evening, and that Israeli forces fired back at the vehicle, wounding the Palestinian. She added that no Israelis were wounded in the incident.

Local sources told Ma’an that the Palestinian was 26 year-old Abud resident Omar Nathir Ibrahim al-Barghouthi, and that he had been taken to a hospital in Jerusalem by Israeli forces to receive medical care.

During the army raid in Abud, clashes erupted between Palestinian youth and Israeli forces, who fired rubber-coated steel bullets and tear gas.

An Israeli army spokesperson confirmed to Ma’an that Israeli troops raided Abud overnight and “entered and searched” al-Barghouthi’s home.

She said that she had no information regarding clashes or detentions in the village.
