Israeli forces level lands, open fire on agricultural lands in Gaza Strip

Dec. 13, 2016 10:07 A.M. (Updated: Dec. 13, 2016 2:57 P.M.)
GAZA CITY (Ma'an) -- Israeli forces Tuesday morning leveled lands in the northern Gaza Strip and opened fire on agricultural lands in the southern region of the coastal enclave, according to witnesses.

Witnesses told Ma’an that four Israeli bulldozers entered the northeastern Gaza Strip from the Zekim military base and leveled lands.

The bulldozers were escorted by several armored military vehicles, while Israeli warplanes hovered overhead during the incursion.

Separately, Israeli troops opened fire at Palestinian agricultural lands in the al-Sanati neighborhood of Gaza’s southern Khan Yunis district. No injuries were reported.

An Israeli army spokesperson said they were looking into reports of both incidents.

Israeli military incursions inside the besieged Gaza Strip and near the “buffer zone," which lies on both the land and sea sides of Gaza, have long been a near-daily occurrence.

Palestinians who work near the unilaterally declared “buffer zone” between the Palestinian enclave and Israel often come under fire from military forces, as the Israeli military has not made clear the precise area of the designated zone.

The practice has in effect destroyed much of the agricultural sector of the blockaded coastal enclave.
