ٌِRAMALLAH (Ma'an) -- Israeli forces raided the home of slain Palestinian Maen Abu Qaraa in the al-Mazraa al-Qibliyaa village in the central occupied West Bank district of Ramallah early Saturday morning, according to locals.

Locals told Ma’an that during a raid on the village, Israeli forces raided Abu Qaraa’s family home and held his family in a single room for interrogation.

Soldiers searched the house, destroyed furniture, searched the family’s ID cards and took down their personal mobile phones’ numbers.

Abu Qaraa, 23, was killed by Israeli forces on Thursday after allegedly attempting to carry out a stabbing attack near the illegal Israeli Ofra settlement , between the Ramallah-area villages of Silwad and Deir Jarir.

In the days following Abu Qaraa’s death, Israeli forces have imposed several road and checkpoint closures across the Ramallah district, making travel for residents of the Ramallah district’s northern villages extremely difficult.

Clashes broke out on the evening of the alleged attack near the al-Jalazun refugee camp in Ramallah after Israeli forces set up a flying checkpoint at the camp’s entrance.

Israeli soldiers fired tear-gas bombs and stun grenades at local youth that gathered near the checkpoint, while the youth threw rocks at Israeli forces, injuring one soldier.

Abu Qaraa was the 238th to be killed by an Israeli since the beginning of a wave of unrest across the occupied Palestinian territory and Israel in October 2015, the vast majority of whom were shot dead by Israeli forces.

Since the unrest began, the family members of alleged attackers, as well as residents of the villages and towns where alleged attackers were from have seen an increase in nightly raids and arbitrary military road closures immediately following such attacks.

Also on Saturday, in the Hebron area village of Beit Ummar, Israeli forces raided the home of Khalid Ahmad Elayyan Ikhlayyil, 23, who was killed by Israeli forces on Sunday after he allegedly attempted to commit a car-ramming attack near the village.

Israel’s response to alleged attacks -- both large and small -- such as punitive home demolitions, the sealing of entire villages, mass detention campaigns, and withholding the bodies of Palestinians slain while committing attacks, has been condemned by rights groups, who have said the measures amount to “collective punishment” and represent a clear violation of international law.
