BETHLEHEM (Ma’an) -- Israeli soldiers threw a sound bomb at a group of Palestinian youths peacefully sitting outside of a house in the occupied West Bank district of Ramallah on Monday night, as a nearby security camera caught the incident on video.
The video, which was originally posted on Palestinian social media, shows an Israeli military jeep stopping in front of a group of young Palestinians who were sitting outside of a house. After several seconds, the Israeli soldiers threw a sound bomb at the group of men as the jeep began driving away.
The group of men are seen jumping up from their seats and running away, as the sound bomb explodes where they were sitting.
The video was captured by a nearby security camera. However, it did not show the exact timing of the incident.
According to Israeli media, the Israeli military opened an investigation into the incident. An Israeli army spokesperson told Ma’an that "the event was being reviewed."
Despite the start of an investigation, the perpetrators of violence against Palestinian civilians and their property, including incidents involving Israeli military personnel, are rarely ever punished, with Israeli authorities closing most investigations without imposing any punitive measures on those involved.
Palestinians took to social media to post the video as one example of numerous instances in which Israeli soldiers abuse Palestinians with impunity, with some commenting that the soldiers were just doing what they always like to do in the West Bank: have a bit of fun with the Palestinians.
“They like to give us gifts. It can be tear gas, maybe a sound bomb, or some bullets next time. Who knows? It’s just for the soldiers to have a bit of fun,” one Palestinian commented on Facebook, while another highlighted that the incident happened because the Israeli soldiers "can get away with it."
