Israeli forces injure Palestinian youth with live fire during raids in Bethlehem

June 24, 2016 10:23 A.M. (Updated: June 26, 2016 8:02 P.M.)
BETHLEHEM (Ma'an) -- Israeli forces Friday injured a young Palestinian in the al-Duheisha refugee camp with live fire during predawn raids carried out across the occupied West Bank city of Bethlehem, locals told Ma’an.

The Palestinian youth was reportedly struck with live fire in the leg after clashes broke out between Palestinian youths and Israeli soldiers. The identity of the youth has not been released.

The injured Palestinian was taken to the Beit Jala governmental hospital, where doctors reported his injury as moderate.

Israeli forces also raided the western Bethlehem area of Beit Jala and Doha overnight, as locals reported Israeli forces, including bulldozers, stormed the area and confiscated footage from surveillance cameras outside several stores.

Clashes erupted between Palestinian youth and Israeli soldiers in several areas, with Israeli soldiers opening live fire at Palestinians, and shooting rubber-coated steel bullets and stun grenades into the communities.

An Israeli army spokesperson told Ma’an she would look into reports. No detentions were reported in the Bethlehem district.

The raid came amid reports of streets protests by local Palestinian youth this past week in al-Duheisha in response to ongoing water cuts in the camp and across the occupied West Bank. Al-Duheisha has reportedly been without running water for weeks.

Israeli raids on Palestinian communities often erupt into violent clashes as Palestinian youths throw rocks at Israeli soldiers carrying out detention raids on a nightly basis, with soldiers regularly opening live fire on Palestinians and using a variety of crowd dispersal methods that often times result in severe injuries.
