BETHLEHEM (Ma’an) -- Israeli forces detained at least eight Palestinians during raids early Thursday morning across the occupied West Bank, according to Israeli and Palestinian sources.

Two young Palestinians were injured and another two detained during a raid in Aida refugee camp in the district of Bethlehem where clashes broke out between local Palestinian youth and Israeli forces.

Witnesses reported Israeli soldiers opening heavy fire and launching stun grenades and tear gas canisters after youths surrounded them.

Two unidentified youths were injured with live fire to the legs, locals said, with one critically injured and the other sustaining moderate injuries.

Palestinian security sources identified those detained by Israeli forces as Anas Nabhan al-Umour,24, and Muhammad Ahmad al-Amir, 27. An Israeli army spokesperson confirmed the army had detained two Palestinians from Aida camp.

In the town of Yatta in the southern district of Hebron -- which has been sealed by Israeli forces following news that the two suspected attackers in Tel Aviv last week were from the town -- two Palestinians were reportedly detained during ongoing detention campaigns being carried out against the whole community in response to the attack.

The Palestinians detained were identified by Palestinian security forces as Nabil Wahid al-Juneidi and Ibrahim Walid Shreiteh. An Israeli army spokesperson also confirmed two detentions in Hebron.

Palestinian sources also reported a raid in the northern West Bank district of Qalqilya, with Israeli forces detaining Muin Muhammad al-Dalu from Qalqilya City. Israeli sources confirmed a detention in Qalqilya.

An Israeli army spokesperson reported two additional detentions in Ramallah, one being an alleged Hamas operative, and one in Jericho.

In the early hours on Thursday, Israeli forces raided the village of Bilin in the central West Bank district of Ramallah, sparking clashes with local youth.

Locals told Ma’an that Israeli forces shot rubber-coated steel bullets, stun grenades, and tear gas canisters at the community, causing the elderly, children, and women to suffer from tear gas inhalation.

According to prisoners rights group Addameer 7,000 Palestinians are currently held in Israeli prisons, with an estimated 40 percent of the Palestinian male population having been detained by Israel at some point in their lives.

UN documentation states that 2,021 detention raids have been carried out in the West Bank since the start of this year.
