GAZA (Ma'an) -- A Palestinian was injured by live fire during clashes with Israeli forces east of Al-Bureij refugee camp in the central Gaza Strip on Friday.

Witnesses said that Israeli forces deployed behind the border fence opened fire at a gathering of youths in the area, who protest the Israeli occupation and the nearly ten-year blockade on Gaza every week.

An Israeli army spokesperson told Ma’an they were looking into the reports.

Israeli forces regularly use violence to quell Palestinian demonstrations in the occupied Palestinian territory.

According to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), six Palestinians have been killed and 139 injured by Israeli forces in the besieged Gaza Strip alone since the beginning of 2016.
