Israel detains 25 Palestinians in raids, extends detention of 5 minors

BETHLEHEM (Ma’an) -- Israeli forces detained at least 25 Palestinians in overnight detention raids across the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem on Sunday, while an Israeli court extended the detention of five East Jerusalem minors.

Palestinian security sources said Israeli forces detained Ahmad Mahmoud Marrar,18, and Qusay Hayes,17, in Beit Duqqu northwest of Jerusalem.

Israeli soldiers also raided the village of Beit Fajjar south of Bethlehem, ransacking a number of houses before detaining Salti Ahmad Thawabta,17.

Israeli troops detained Abdullah Munther Qadous,14, from the village of Burin south of Nablus and raided the house of Palestinian prisoner Saad Husam al-Faqih.

The security sources added that Israeli troops raided the village of Qabatiya near Jenin and measures three houses, which received demolition notifications.

Israeli forces also raided the villages of Beituniya, Deir Abu Mashal, Shuqba and Beitin villages in the Ramallah and al-Bireh district, the Palestinian security sources said.

In the village of Bani Naim east of Hebron, Israeli troops raided the house of Dawood Mousa al-Tarayra and detained his son Mousa Dawood al-Tarayra, 25, after allegedly finding a gun in the home.

An Israeli army spokesperson told Ma'an that 24 people were detained overnight, listing four arrests in Deir Abu Mashal, three in Beit Duqqu, two in Beituniya, one in Burin, one in Beit Fajjar, and one in Shuqba.

She also noted four detentions in Beit Ur al-Tahta west of Ramallah; one in the village of al-Tira southwest of Ramallah; three in the town of Husan west of Bethlehem; one in Nablus; one in Qalqiliya; one in Yatta; and one southwest of Hebron.

The spokesperson said all but one of the detained were suspected of illegal activities, while the Palestinian detained in Shuqba was a “Hamas operative.” She added that she didn’t have immediate information on a detention in Bani Naim.

Meanwhile, an Israeli court decided on Sunday to extend the detention of five minors from occupied East Jerusalem.

Lawyer Muhammad Mahmoud said that the court also extended the detention of five Palestinian teenagers from the al-Tur neighborhood to next Thursday over charges of throwing stones at the illegal Israeli settlement of Beit Orot.

The lawyer identified the detainees as Abdullah Samir Fahd Abu Sbeitan, 17, Basim Mahir Sbeitani, 17, Siraj Mahmoud Udah Abu Sbeitan, 16, Mahmoud Ahmad Abu al-Hawa, 17, and Omar Abu al-Hawa, 16.

Mahmoud said the youths were assaulted by Israeli undercover forces when they were detained on Friday, and that at least two of them, Siraj and Basim, had visible bruising on their bodies.

According to prisoners’ rights group Addameer, 7,000 Palestinians were detained by Israel as of February, 406 of them minors.
