Israeli forces detain 16 Palestinians across the West Bank

JERUSALEM (Ma'an) -- Israeli forces detained at least 16 Palestinians across the occupied West Bank overnight Wednesday and Thursday morning, the Palestinian Prisoners' Society (PPS) told Ma'an.

The society said five Palestinians were detained from the northern occupied West Bank district of Nablus, near Burin village, during raids after two Israeli soldiers were stabbed and lightly injured on Wednesday evening.

The five detainees were identified as Nael Dahshat Qadus, Malek Fateh Qadus, Saad Ahed Qadus, Laith Omar Qadus and Islam Nasser Asous.

In Tulkarem, Israeli forces detained three Palestinians identified as Muhammad al-Safarini, Abd al-Latif Hasan Tuba, 22, and Muhammad Hasan Tuba, 19, the society said.

An Israeli army spokesperson only confirmed one detention in Tulkarem.

In Jenin, PPS documented another three Palestinians were detained and identified as Imad Ahmad Sabaaneh, Yazid Husni Arqawi and Muwaffaq Rajeh Abu al-Hasan.

In the northern West Bank district of Qalqiliya, Israeli forces detained two men Identified as Qusai Zakariya Adwan, 18, and Ghalib Khalid Shubeita, 24.

An Israeli army spokesperson confirmed the detention, and added that two others had also been detained overnight in Qalqilya.

In the eastern district of Jericho, Israeli forces detained a 14-year-old girl identified as Hadiyeh Ibrahim Ereinat, after the teenager stabbed and lightly injured an Israeli police officer.

In the southern occupied West Bank district of Hebron, Israeli forces detained two more Palestinians, identified as Fadi Abd al-Hafith al-Tamimi and Wael Masalmeh.

An Israeli army spokesperson said three Palestinians were detained in Hebron. The spokesperson added that one more had been detained in the Ramallah district.

According to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, Israeli forces carried out an average of 88 search and arrest raids every week last year.

Israel is now holding nearly 7,000 Palestinians in its jails, including around 450 children.
