Video: Israeli officer throws disabled man from wheelchair after shooting

Feb. 14, 2016 9:34 P.M. (Updated: Feb. 19, 2016 12:49 P.M.)
Correction appended.

BETHLEHEM (Ma'an) -- Video footage was released Sunday showing an Israeli police officer throwing a disabled man from his wheelchair in central Hebron as Palestinians gathered at the site where a young woman was shot moments earlier.

The disabled man was attempting to reach the critically wounded woman, identified as 21-year-old Yasmin al-Zarou, in order to help her.

However, as shown in the widely shared video footage, a border police officer threw him out of his wheelchair, while other officers kept bystanders back, threatening them and firing a stun grenade.

Al-Zarou was shot after Israeli police say she attempted to stab a police officer at an Israeli checkpoint near Hebron's Old City, although local sources disputed their version of events.

The incident was one of several bloody encounters on Sunday, with five Palestinians shot dead after allegedly attempting to carry out three separate attacks. No Israelis were injured.

This version corrects that Yasmin al-Zarou was 21 years old and not 14.
