14-year old Palestinian arrested in Jerusalem for carrying knife

BETHLEHEM (Ma’an) -- A Palestinian teenager was detained in Jerusalem on Monday after Israeli police forces found a knife on his person.

Israeli police spokeswoman Luba al-Samri said Israeli forces noticed the boy acting “suspiciously” on al-Wad street -- also known as Hagai Street -- in the Old City of Jerusalem.

Israeli police officers then searched the teenager, a resident of occupied East Jerusalem, and found a kitchen knife under his clothes, al-Samri added.

Earlier on Monday, Israeli forces shot and killed a 19-year-old Palestinian identified as Ahmad Hassan Tuba, near Tulkarem after he allegedly tried to stab Israeli soldiers with a knife.

Since a wave of unrest began in occupied East Jerusalem in October and spread across the West Bank and Israel, more than 160 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces or settlers, and over 20 Israelis have died in attacks.

On Sunday, a suspected Palestinian stabbed and lightly injured a 17-year-old Israeli near occupied East Jerusalem's Damascus gate. A 16-year-old Palestinian turned himself into Israeli authorities in connection with the attack a day later.
