Israeli forces shoot, injure Palestinian farmer in northern Gaza

Jan. 29, 2016 8:14 P.M. (Updated: Jan. 29, 2016 8:14 P.M.)
GAZA (Ma'an) -- Israeli forces on Friday shot and wounded a Palestinian farmer with live fire near the al-Maqbara al-Sharqiya area of the northern Gaza Strip, medical sources said.

The farmer was reportedly hit in his foot and taken to the Indonesian Hospital for treatment. No further details of his identity or condition were provided.

An Israeli army spokesperson said she was looking into the reports.

Israeli forces frequently open fire on Palestinians inside or near to the military-imposed "buffer zone" on land and at sea in the besieged coastal enclave.

The exact limits of the zone are unclear but they were enforced with live fire, putting the lives of Palestinian farmers and fishermen who work near the border at risk.

The Palestinian Center for Human Rights reported 41 incidents of live fire along the border in December 2015 alone.
