BETHLEHEM (Ma'an) -- An Israeli police officer was lightly injured by a Molotov cocktail during clashes with Palestinians in occupied East Jerusalem on Thursday afternoon, Israeli police and medical sources said.

Israeli police spokesperson Micky Rosenfeld told Ma'an that Israeli police near the Mount of Olives spotted "a number of suspects preparing stones and rocks" to be thrown at the Highway 1.

He said police forces "dispersed" the Palestinians, after which a Palestinian threw a Molotov cocktail at the police officers, lightly injuring one of them in his leg.

Israeli emergency services Magen David Adom said the officer was evacuated to Hadassah hospital with mild injuries.

Rosenfeld said police operations were "ongoing in the area," although he said there had not been any further clashes.
