3 shot in clashes after Palestinian gunmen open fire on Israeli forces

Dec. 30, 2015 10:11 A.M. (Updated: Dec. 30, 2015 10:11 A.M.)
RAMALLAH (Ma’an) -- Israeli forces late Tuesday shot and injured three Palestinians during clashes in the village of Beit Duqqu northwest of Jerusalem in the occupied West Bank, locals said.

Witnesses told Ma’an that clashes broke out after Palestinian gunmen opened fire on an Israeli military post near the village and fled the scene in a private vehicle.

Israeli forces set up checkpoints around the village following the incident, preventing residents from moving in and out.

The witnesses said that Israeli soldiers opened fire at a young man walking in the street, injuring him and taking him into custody, before 10 Israeli military vehicles stormed the village.

Two Palestinians were hit by live fire when clashes broke out with local young men who hurled stones and empty bottles at soldiers. locals said.

Palestinian Red Crescent ambulances were reportedly prevented by Israeli forces from entering the village and treating those injured during clashes, locals said, adding that the injured were evacuated in private vehicles before an ambulance reached the area via a long bypass road.

An Israeli army spokesperson told Ma’an that on Tuesday “shots were fired at border police vehicle from a Palestinian vehicle before the perpetrators fled the scene.”

Israeli forces then began a search for the perpetrators when a “violent riot erupted.” The forces identified a “rioter” holding a fire bomb and opened fire, confirming one hit, the spokesperson said.
