Gazans mourn death of Palestinian shot in head, killed in clashes

Dec. 26, 2015 1:19 P.M. (Updated: Dec. 26, 2015 8:24 P.M.)
GAZA CITY (Ma'an) -- Palestinians in the Gaza Strip on Saturday mourned the death of a 22-year-old killed by Israeli military forces during clashes that broke out the day before, locals said.

Hani Rafiq Wahdan, 22, was shot in the head near the al-Shujayyia neighborhood east of Gaza City, during clashes that erupted after demonstrations held in the area.

Nineteen others were hit by live fire in clashes across the besieged enclave, Gaza’s Ministry of Health, Ashraf al-Qidra, told Ma’an.

Crowds carried Wahdan’s body from the al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City to his home where his family bid their final farewells before burial.

Wahdan was the third Palestinian to be shot dead during clashes in the strip for the third Friday in a row.

The three are among at least 21 Palestinians to be killed in the Gaza Strip since Oct. 1, the majority shot during demonstrations, and two -- a 2-year-old and her pregnant mother -- killed in an Israeli airstrike on their home.

Demonstrations in solidarity with Palestinians across occupied Palestinian territory have taken place in the besieged strip on a weekly basis since October.
