Palestinian prisoner in Ramla jail 'may die at any moment'

Dec. 19, 2015 2:51 P.M. (Updated: Dec. 19, 2015 2:51 P.M.)
RAMALLAH (Ma’an) -- Palestinian prisoner Bassam Ameen al-Sayeh, 43, from the occupied West Bank city of Nablus is in serious health condition and "may die at any moment," the Palestinian Minister of Prisoner Affairs said Saturday.

Issa Qaraqe told Ma'an that al-Sayah is being held in a medical clinic inside of the Ramla prison and suffers from both cancer and heart disease. The prisoner has recently had difficulty breathing, Qaraqe added.

The minister urged Israel to release al-Sayah due to his poor health, holding Israel responsible for the detainee's life.

Al-Salah was detained on Oct. 8, 2015 and sentenced to 20 years in Israeli prison.

Bassam was one of 17 prisoners held in al-Ramla that the Palestinian Prisoners' Society on Dec. 1 warned were being treated for serious medical complications.
