HEBRON (Ma'an) -- Israeli military forces injured five Palestinians on Friday during clashes in Hebron, Palestinian officials said.

Israeli forces surrounded the Wasaya al-Rasoul mosque in Hebron and deployed on rooftops in the area, with clashes breaking out as worshipers left the mosque after Friday prayers.

Palestinian youths threw rocks at Israeli soldiers, who responded with live fire, rubber-coated steel bullets, and tear gas canisters.

Four Palestinians were hit with 0.22 bullets in the lower extremities while one person was shot in the head with a rubber-coated steel bullet, the Ministry of Health told Ma'an.

The injured were taken to a government hospital in Hebron for treatment.

A march organized by Hamas had earlier set off in support of Palestinians killed by Israel's army in Hebron.

Hebron, the largest city in the occupied West Bank, has borne thebrunt of violencein recent weeks, with at least one third of the more than 70 Palestinians killed by Israel’s army residents of the district, nine of whom were shot dead in the Old City over the past week.
