Palestinian shot dead after alleged Jenin attack, no injuries reported

Oct. 24, 2015 12:16 P.M. (Updated: Oct. 25, 2015 9:56 A.M.)
JENIN (Ma'an) -- A Palestinian youth was shot dead Saturday near al-Jalama military checkpoint north of Jenin in the occupied West Bank after he allegedly attempted to stab an Israeli security guard, eyewitnesses and the Israeli army said.

Eyewitnesses told Ma'an that "there were no stabbing attempts" at the time that Israeli forces opened fire at a 16-year-old Palestinian at the crossing.

The forces then dragged the injured youth inside of the checkpoint preventing Palestinian Red Crescent ambulances from reaching him for treatment, eyewitnesses added.

The teen was identified as Ahmad Muhammad Said Kamil from Jenin.

An Israeli army spokesperson told Ma'an that "an attempted stabbing was thwarted at the Gilboa crossing," using an alternate name for the checkpoint, where "security personnel" shot and killed the suspect to prevent an attack.

The spokesperson was unable to confirm any injuries and said the Israeli military was currently investigating the incident. The crossing has since been closed.

The teen's death at the northern border of the occupied West Bank marks at least 55 Palestinians killed since the beginning of the month.

While at least 28 of those killed were shot dead after carrying out attacks on Israeli military or civilians, several cases have been disputed by eyewitnesses and investigations by rights groups who say the suspects posed no threat at the time of their death.

Video footage of such incidents has raised criticism of what Israeli rights group B'Tselem terms an Israeli policy of "extrajudicial execution," where a "shoot-to-kill" policy advocated by Israeli officials has led to high numbers of unnecessary deaths.

At least nine Israelis have been killed by Palestinians since Oct. 1, leading Israeli authorities to heighten security measures and number of Israeli military personnel and police across the occupied Palestinian territory.

A Palestinian terrorist attempted to stab Israeli security guards at the Jalma checkpoint near Jenin in the West Bank on Saturday. The security guards saw the man running towards them with a knife in his hand and opened fire, killing the terrorist.

Ma'an, just to be clear, there was nothing "alleged" regarding the attack. It was an attack, period. Clarity is the hallmark of good journalism.

Maybe that's what Netanyahu meant to Kerry when he said he will calm the unrest. By shooting more Palestinians and detain many more. I still can't believe Kerry still meet Netanyahu, maybe I guess he has no other choice. I personaly wont meet Netanyahu if my life depend on it.

Palestinian knifing of Israelis is a form of terrorism. To stop the terrorism, Israelis will shoot and kill the knife-bearers. I am confused. Will it take 50 shootings or 500 before the Palestinians realize, once again, that terror will not bring peace or prosperity?

No matter if you lose sight and see not,
But what to those who vision clear claim,
Can see pebbles in the children’s hands,
Cannot see bombs dropping over them.

The key word is "alleged". Who alleges that this person tried to commit an "attack"? Why the racist trigger finger occupiers of course. The witnesses said that no attack happened. So why should we trust Mr. "Palestinians urged Hitler to kill the Jews" Netanyahu and his IDF "investigators"?
