Elderly Palestinian woman dies after delay at Jerusalem checkpoint

JERUSALEM (Ma’an) -- An elderly Palestinian woman died late Sunday after being delayed from reaching a hospital by an Israeli checkpoint recently set-up in the al-Issawiya neighborhood of East Jerusalem.

Huda Muhammad Darwish, 65, and her family were delayed from reaching the hospital after she suffered breathing difficulties following clashes in which tear gas was fired in the neighborhood, a local committee said.

Her family tried to rush her to hospital, but Israeli troops ignored that there was asickperson in the car and delayed them at the checkpoint.

Huda was pronounced dead at the hospital, although the cause of death is unclear.

The local committee held Israeli forces completely responsible for her death.

Last week,Israeli forces set up checkpoints at the entrance to the al-Issawiya and al-Tur neighborhoods, Muhammad Abu al-Hummus, a local follow-up committee spokesman, told Ma’an.

Israel’s security cabinet had announced that Israeli police were now entitled to "impose a closure on, or to surround, centers of friction and incitement in Jerusalem, in accordance with security considerations," according to reports in the Israeli media.

The cabinet also gave approval for the revocation of residency status for Palestinians who carry out attacks as well as the police closure of occupied East Jerusalem.

As can happen, the innocent are punished along with the guilty. Those Palestinians considering attacks should keep this in mind.

Occupation limits the amount of water per person. Less $ to buy food. Women in Occupation share a lot of the burden trying to keep home life safe and healthy. Womens' health is a very BIG concern. I hope you can visit the area to discover life in the Occupation.

As can be seen in some of the comments here, zionists and their apologists have no empathy, that's a "by product" of their indoctrination and or their hasbara pay packet.

Honor, Your lack of compassion and gut wrenching flippancy is eye watering. I can only imagine that you neither love nor are loved, to be so cruel. These are REAL people behind the headlines on your computer screen.

To Outlier: 'As can happen, the innocent are punished along with the guilty. Those Palestinians considering attacks should keep this in mind.'

Is that why it was wrong to resist the Nazis?

to truth: 'well let's think...don't do terror there won't be checkpoints people won't die' Your logic is flawed. A lack of resistance merely encourages Zionists to more engage in more ferocious oppression. That, unfortunately, we have seen.

Sandy O' Neill, and Robby Martin, you make me extremely proud to be Scottish and Celtic. I agree with you wholeheartedly and I would never like to be a person who had no heart, compassion or humanity. May she RIP
