Palestinian shot, killed in East Jerusalem after alleged stab attack

Oct. 12, 2015 9:46 A.M. (Updated: Oct. 13, 2015 5:40 P.M.)
JERUSALEM (Ma’an) -- Israeli forces on Monday shot and killed a Palestinian man in East Jerusalem after an alleged stabbing attempt on border police officers, Israeli police said.

Israeli police spokesperson Micky Rosenfeld said the suspect pulled out a knife at officers and was shot dead at the scene.

The incident occurred near Lion's Gate, with the area closed off afterwards.

Israeli news site the Times of Israel reported that border police asked a Palestinian man to take his hands out of his pockets after becoming suspicious, at which point the suspect attempted to attack the officer, hitting his protective vest.

The attacker was then shot multiple times.

Palestinian witnesses told Ma'an that there was no attempted stabbing at the time of the shooting, and the man was killed as he was walking in the area.

The suspect was identified as Mustafa Adel al-Khatib, 18.

The latest death brings the total number of Palestinians killed to 25 since the beginning of October.

On Sunday, Israeli forces shot dead a 13-year-old boy during clashes south of al-Bireh in Ramallah district, medics said.

The child, identified as 13-year-old Ahmad Sharaka, was shot in the neck with a live round, medics said.He was also the third 13-year-old to be shot dead by Israeli forces in the same time period.

The Palestinian Authority Ministry of Health said Sunday that Israeli forces have shot more than 1,300 Palestinians with live and rubber-coated bullets since the beginning of this month.

Fierce clashes have kept up unabated since the beginning of the month, prompted by Israeli army and settler reprisals after four Israelis were killed in two separate attacks at the beginning of October.

However, tensions had mounted for weeks, particularly over tight restrictions on Palestinians seeking to enter the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound -- the third holiest site in Islam -- during a succession of Jewish holidays.

The Palestinian human rights group al-Haq warned on Saturday that the occupied Palestinian territories stood "on the brink."

The group blamed "Israel’s wanton and excessive use of force against Palestinians, with no accountability for the deaths they cause" for the high death toll.

The Palestinian Authority has for years paid out - and still pays out - hundreds of thousands of shekels to individual Palestinian terrorists sentenced in Israel to long jail sentences for multiple murders, according to official PA documents.

Among them are Hamas operatives responsible for deadly attacks in Israel, such as Hamas bomb maker Abdullah Barghouti, who is serving a 67 life sentences (for 67 murders). Abdullah Barghouti has so far received 4 million shekels (around $1 million).

Every rank-and-file terrorist is awarded a stipend of up to 10,000 shekels per month while behind bars. Under the reign of Mahmoud Abbas, head of the Palestinian Authority, therefore, the rewards of terror are substantial and long-lasting.

I don't know where you get these "Palestinian witnesses".
Why not do some real journalist job, like reporting the truth, and if possible using evidence?

You can see in this link a video from the incident, showing clearly the stabbing attempt.

Not alleged at all. The Palestinians have made it very clear that they are carrying out a wide campaign of violence aimed at killing Israelis. There is a mountain of factual evidence including calls from the PA and imams for Palestinians to kill Israelis. Palestinian culture is violence, not peace.

Knife or no knife, the police seems to be unable to disarm a singe person without killing him. That was not the case when an Israeli was stabbing Arabs in the South last week. Why? Are Arabs really so much more dangerous that the police is so scared?

israel steals murders and tortures everyday. Eventually some will snap. The ministers in israels government have been known to attend demonstrations and shout "Death to Arabs". The government incites violence against unarmed population then randomly shoots people and frames with knives.

@Yaakov the person on your recommended video and the actual victim are not the same. I see that you are lying, not them.
