JENIN (Ma’an) – Undercover Israeli forces on Saturday morning shot and injured a young Palestinian man in the village of Bartaa west of Jenin and detained four, locals said.

Head of the Bartaa municipal council, Ghassan Qabaha, told Ma’an that clashes erupted overnight between Israeli troops and young Palestinian men at the southern entrance to the village.

Clashes continued until 2 a.m. before undercover Israeli forces entered the village in a civilian vehicle and opened fire at a Palestinian vehicle parked near the clashes.

A young man in the car at the time sustained minor injuries before the undercover officers detained four others from the vehicle.

Qabaha identified the detainees as Muhammad Nabil Qabaha, Saed Mahmoud Qabaha, Muhammad Hussein Qabaha and his brother Shadi.

The young man who was shot remained unidentified, though Qabaha confirmed he wasn’t detained.

An Israeli army spokesperson confirmed the four arrests but said she was unable to comment on what the forces were wearing and had no record of an injury.

Earlier this week, undercover Israeli forces dressed as Palestinian protesters injured and detained three Palestinians during clashes near the Beit El settlement checkpoint, northeast of al-Bireh in the district of Ramallah.

The incident was caught on tape by an AFP journalist and later went viral, causing outrage at Israel's use of undercover forces -- known as "mustarabin" -- and the brutal treatment of the forces of the Palestinian demonstrators.
